A damaged and incomplete two-part lead-alloy cloth seal, one disc and the connecting rivet intact; part of one disc and the connecting tab have been lost following old damage. The central rivet and front disc were stamped with a 'privy' or 'merchant's' mark. The mark is unclear following the damage but has a central cross bar and numeral 2 to its right, a long vertical with further details at the top, now unclear. On the reverse of the other disc an incised 30.
This was probably a cloth seal used by a weaver, dyer or searcher. The use of a privy mark suggests a broad late 16th to 1…
