An incomplete Post-Medieval lead cloth seal, probably disc 3 or 4 of a 4-part cloth seal, dating to c. AD 1590-1724. The disc depicts a shield with indented edges containing a double-stranded equal armed cross with the sword of St. Paul in the top left field, with CIVITA[S LONDO]N around the edge.
Dimensions: diameter 15.7mm; weight 1.13g.
4-part cloth seals had come into use by the end of the 16th century, with the alnage taxation system abolished in 1724 (Egan 1994, 2001). Similar seals from london can be seen illustrated by Egan (1994: figs. 19-21).
