Lead cloth or bag seal. Cast pair of discs, now pressed together; the edges of the larger disc are crumpled and folded over. An indistinct motif or legend appears on one side, but the most prominent feature is the well-preserved impressions of closely woven fabric the other side. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1500-1800. Length: 25.7mm, Width: 21.5mm, Thickness: 2.8mm, Weight: 4.30gms.

Lead Bale seal; comprises cast circular disc and either stub of lug for central shank or a much smaller disc on reverse; the latter bears a small butterfly shape in flat relief, though this might be fortuitously formed. Motif is Alpha, standing for Augsburg, a German city producing fustian cloth and also many of the cloth seals found in England, with three annulets (to left, right and above) with a billeted border also above. An incomplete post medieval lead cloth seal. Disc one of the two-part seal is complete but worn. It as the crown over shield with arms of England, E (R) to sides and the inscription around the edge reads [S’VLII’PA]O’VIALLE’LON’’ (Seal of the alnage of saleable cloths of London. Disc two only survives in a fragmentary state, but would originally had a ridged cross with sword in first quarter (arms of London) in ronate shield. Around the edge none of the inscription survives, but it would have read [LONDINI PRO PANNIS LANICIS] (for woollen cloths in London).

A fragment of a post medieval cloth seal. Only a fragment of the two part disc survives and on the front disc are the remains of an off struck inscription [LE]. A complete post medieval Rotterdam import lead cloth seal. The two part cloth seal has the city arms on disc 1 which includes a river flowing palewise and in chief, quarterly, four lions. Around the edge of the shield is a fragmentary inscription which would include the city name. On disc 2 are the remains of a large letter ‘R’. The diameter is 23.7mm and the weight is 8.68g.

One face of the seal is completely worn but the other has the remains of a crowned porcullis. None of the legend survives. The length is 19.2mm,the diameter is 17.0mm and the weight is 5.00g.

An incomplete lead-alloy Post Medieval cloth seal. The two inner discs are all that survives of the four part cloth seal and these have been cut. The diameter is 19.5mm and the weight is 4.54g. Fleur-de-lis with crown above//W/I/G/I in centre in a square formation and the inscription []BOA[] around the edge. Stuart Elton kindly comments as follows: 'This is an alnage seal for Yorkshire - EBOR'.

An incomplete Post Medieval lead alloy alnage cloth seal. Only the two inner discs of the four part seal survives, the two outer discs are missing. On one face is the bust of George I with the inscription GEORGI[VS REX] around the edge. On the opposite face is a shield with three fleur de lys inside. Around the edge of the shield should be a tax rate in pence, though this has worn off. The surviving diameter is 12.9mm, the width is 15.9mm and the weight is 2.59g.
