An incomplete cast lead cloth seal of Post-Medieval date. Probably sixteenth to eighteenth century. Length: 19.6mm; width: 17.8mm and 4.0mm thick. Wight: 3.66g.
The seal consists of part of one disc and the rivet head. The rivet head has a raised letter W with curving raised lines below. The rear face of the incomplete disc has traces of a textile impression.
Buff patina and old breaks.
A similar cloth seal with a letter W is illustrated by Egan (Egan 1994, 84, fig. 32, ref. 236). This example is dated ?sixteenth to eighteenth century.

The disc has a raised design on one side consisting of beaded circle containing a figure 8 (or possibly a letter B) with a possible date below:

Around the outside of the circle there are traces of an inscription which is severely worn and indeterminate. The other side of the disc is rough and plain. However, some marks on this side may be textile impressions.

A two part seal joined together by a connecting strip which has a width of 4.8mm.

Disc 2: raised capital letters : S F over woolsack (on rivet head).

Woolsacks are always a late (C18th) symbol on cloth seals (unless they are actually dyers' madderbags from the early C17th).

Raised head of George I right with raised inscription around: GEORGIVS REX all contained within a raised rope-work circle. Part of the disc is missing due to an old break.

A fragment of a cast lead cloth seal of Post-Medieval date, early/mid seventeenth century. Length: 18.1mm; width: 13.8mm and 3.9mm thick. Weight: 2.76g.
The seal is of two parts:
Disc 1: Raised design of a castle with three towers (part of the disc is missing).
Disc 2: Raised Stuart arms of Britain (only part of the disc, the rivet stub, survives.
All the breaks are old.
Geoff Egan, Finds Adviser of the Portable Antiquities Scheme, has commented: 'several of these are known but none is complete. Possibly from Norwich but not certainly so'.

The two circular discs would have been joined by a connecting strip. However, disc 2 is missing.
Disc 1 in light relief: Crown over portcullis with an E (probably) to left of crown. The surrounding inscription is incomplete and the surviving part is unreadable.
The flat head of the stub that formed part of disc 2 is plain.

A cloth seal of two parts joined together by a connecting strip.
Disc 1: Raised crowned letter H to left; raised crowned letter T to right. The letters have large serifs.
Disc 2: Possibly a privy mark (raised), vaguely resembling a capital letter E or F. This may be part of the weaver's initials.
The seal is in a stable condition and has an overall grey patina.
No parallel found.

A two disc seal.
Side 1 (slightly smaller than side 2): Raised privy mark with initials S C.
Side 2: Scratched markings which are difficult to interpret seem to be 12(?0) over horizontal line, possibly 6 or 8 below – presumably consignment numbers, although the 12 could represent the length in yards.
No immediate parallels found.
The seal has a light grey patina overall.

A single disc of a four disc seal. It is sub-circular in plan and at the front is a moulded bust of Queen Anne facing left. Two connecting strips survive. These are about 3.8mm in width. The rear face is flat and plain.
The seal has a light grey/buff patina overall.

The object is sub-rectangular in plan and has slightly convex sides. It appears to have been made from a piece of lead which has been folded and soldered along one edge. One face has a clear stamp consisting of an inscription: XLIIII∙ within a rectangle formed by beading. The other face has part of a similar beaded rectangle containing the letter W with S H above.

The circular disc is disc 1 of a two-part seal. A small portion of the connecting strip has survived. The front has moulded capital letters in three lines: TO/NAR-/W-. The complete lettering would probably have been: TO/NARO/WE, indicating that the cloth was narrower than the regulation stipulated by the system of quality control known as Alnage.

Disc 1 of a 2 disc seal. The connecting strip is missing and on the reverse of disc 1 is a flattened rivet with a casting seam at either side of the rivet. An impression was made on the reverse of the disc when the seal was attached to the cloth. This impression is clearly visible.

At least three other letters beneath WICH are barely visible and indeterminate. The seal is in good condition and has a buff patina on both faces.
