A complete lead cloth seal of medieval to post-medieval date (c.1700-1900) Description: The seal consists of two lead discs connected by a tab. It is broadly oval in plan. The reverse is undecorated and has a gouge mark almost across its diameter. The front shows the image of a shield but the contents of the shield are unclear. There is beaded border around half of the circumference, the other half is damaged. The object has a grey white patina. Measurements: Diameter: 17.46mm, Thickness: 3.5mm, Weight: 9.01g.

A complete lead cloth seal of post -medieval date(c.1700-1900) Description: The seal consists of two lead discs, which would have been connected by a tab, the tab is present, but is no longer connected to the discs. The reverse is undecorated while the front has been stamped, but the inscription is no longer clear. There is a raised outer border, and an inner beaded border, these can be seen for around half of the seal's diameter. Post medieval two piece lead cloth seal. Circular in shape with a linking strip at one edge. Both faces of the circular seal have raised figures around the border, around a central shape or letter. One side shows a central mark which appears to be a small cross or 'x', whilst the opposite face shows a 'u'. An incomplete lead alloy Dutch Customs bag seal of the Post Medieval period (AD1815-1907). The seal is teardrop shaped with a rounded point at the apex, though some of the edges are damaged and the original shape is not entirely known The obverse side shows the upper right quarter of a shield of arms; probably that of the lesser arms of the Netherlands and therefore post 1815. Post-Medieval lead alloy cloth seal. The item is fragmentary and much of the underside of the seal is missing. The face shows a galloping/prancing horse going left with tail held high. No inscription can be seen. The seal is circular in plan. The face features a slightly raised border around the horse deisgn, which suggests the seal was struck with the design. No direct parallels were found on the database, or in the literature. See LON-7D5141 for a similar design on a cloth seal. A Post Medieval cloth seal of the company of dyers, dating AD1700-1800. The seal is a two disc seal, with the rove disc and connecting strip missing. Part of the stamp is still visible on the rivet stub. The more complete disc depicts a double-headed eagle with an inscription rearding GHE[---]ER[---]ER[---]. Incomplete lead cloth seal dating to the Post Medieval period. It is oval in shape and has100 stamped in the centre with a line of pellets underneath. It is covered in a light grey patina. A similar cloth seal has been published in Egan (1994, p.180, fig 29, no.203). Stuart Elton notes that it is a 100 Bay Seal of Dutch origin. Fragment of a lead alloy cloth seal dating to the Post Medieval period, AD1500-1700. The fragment is circular in shape with a cross hatch design on the reverse. It is likely that the decoration was a portcullis. The seal is 21mm in diameter Egan (1994, 9) writes that the mark of the "crowned portcullis...was the main design for alnage seals in the late Tudor period." With the crowned portcullis meaning that the cloth had been checked by a crown offical.There are many examples of portcullis designs on seals on the database, including SWYOR-0B10CD.
