A complete Post Medieval lead-alloy cloth seal dating to the 17th or 18th century. The seal comprises two discs joined by a rectangular tab. One of the discs has an irregularly shaped rivet through the centre, across the face of which are the moulded initials ‘S F’ surmounting a chest. The motif sits within a single lined boarder. The face of the other disc features three lines of indistinctive markings. The surface patina is light grey in colour. The cloth seal measures 44.1mm in length, 28.9mm in width, 3.4mm in thickness and weighs 18.66 grams.

One disc features a moulded design of a shield, within which is a band with three horseshoes arranged in a row. Above the band are two left facing horse heads. Below the band is a single horse head. The circumference of the disc has a beaded or reeled border. The second disc features a surviving part of the rivet that holds the two discs together. This is plain with no decoration. The obverse disc is plain with a raised central area and a recessed circumerential boarder which is compressed at one edge. The reverse disc is also plain. An iron pin consisting of a single piece of of iron wire runs vertically through the centre of the object and is secured in place by its two twisted terminals. An incomplete Elizabethan two part lead cloth seal dating to c.1558-1600. Only one of the discs survive. The outer face of the surviving half is decorated with a crowned portcullis surrounded by a circumferential inscription suggesting an Elizabethan date (Egan 1992, 2) the inscription is largely illegible.
