The cloth seal is one disc of a probably 4 disc alnage seal and bears a lion passant guardant in the centre - lion walking, with the right fore paw raised and all others on the ground. An incomplete post medieval lead alloy alnage cloth seal from the reign of George I (AD 1714-1727). Two of the original four discs remain, joined by a folded connecting strip. One of the sub-oval discs bears the relief-stamped bust of the king, who faces right and is surrounded by the legend 'GEORGIVS REX' within a ribbed border. On the other disc is a crown surmounted by a lion. There is an 'I' in the left field and '1/2' in the right field, referring to the duty in pence. The front disc has a raised design of the privy seal with the initials S B either split either side. The other disc is undecorated. The cloth seal is one disc of a probably 4 disc alnage seal and bears the arms of the Commonwealth - Shield with the cross St. George (England), alongside a shield with a harp (Ireland). The disc is incomplete and a flat folded tab protrudes from the disc at 1o'clock. The reverse of the disc is plain. Fragment of a lead cloth seal dating (c.1660-1724AD). This is a single disc, from a four disc alnage seal. The seal depicts a crown within a border of pellets. On either side of the cross pattée on top of the crown is 1 ½ signifying the alnage tax paid on the cloth it was attached to. Elton (2017) notes that the alnage system officially ended in 1724 with the death of George I. The other side of the seal is blank. The seal is very thin with crack lines and a powdery white patina. Incomplete fragment of a lead alloy cloth seal of later medieval or post medieval date 1400 -1700 AD. The fragment is broadly oval and distorted by movement in the soil. The design consists of a crude portcullis which is irregular. The reverse face is flat and undecorated. On the upper edge is a broken and abraded tab. A direct parallel has not been found although cloth seals with portcullis designs on are relatively common. The cloth seal measures 17.4mm length, 24.5mm width, is 2.4mm thick and weighs 4.96 grams.
