A Post Medieval cloth seal. The seal is circular in shape with the obverse side being stamped with a privy mark with the letters R ?I. Between the letters is a large stem which terminates at the top in the shape of the number 4. At least two X's are shpwn below the R ?I. Egan (1994:181-2) illustrate similar cloth seals with privy marks of clothiers, weavers, searchers and dyers broadly dating 16th - 17th century. Egan, G. 1994. An incomplete cast lead or lead alloy cloth seal of late 17th Century date. The cloth seal consists of two discs joined by a connecting strip. A break on the opposite edge on both discs suggests this is in fact two discs from what was originally af four-disc cloth seal. Both discs are sub circular in plan. Lead possible cloth seal fragment. Fragment from a disc of cast lead bearing the stamped impression of a coiffed female bust left with a finely milled border. The image resembles that of Queen Anne (1707-1714), and may have intended to convey official status by reference to the similar appearance of her portrait bust on contemporary coins. A stamped [or clamped] motif on one side shows a hanging fleece, which indicates a cloth from Leeds, West Riding of Yorkshire. About six letters of a circumferential legend appear, though they are not deciphered. Patinated overall. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1600-1800. Lead cloth seal. A cast pair of discs which are pressed together with a lug connecting them. One side bears indistinct moulded interlace decoration. The other side bears a figure-of-eight shaped hollow, possibly stamped. The original motif is probably the moulded pattern. An initial identification as an Anglo-Scandinavian pendant was kindly corrected by Wendy Scott, who comments: 'Is this not more likely to be a post med cloth seal or similar?'. Indeed it is! Diameter: 16.9mm, Height (includes loop): 20.1mm, Thickness (overall): 2.9mm, Weight: 3.56gms.

A lead cloth seal of probable post-medieval date. This seal weighs 7.86g, has a diameter of 22.3mm, thickness of 3.0mm and length of 29.8mm across the disc and to the end of the folded-over connecting strip. The connecting strip has a width of 5.4mm where it emerges from the disc, then tapers to the narrowest point, 3.4mm where it folds in half. This is a two disc seal. A post medieval lead possible cloth seal, dating to the period c. AD 1500-1700. The cloth seal comprises a circular disk, with a rectangular projection which would have joined it to the second disk, now missing. Decoration comprises a border of moulded pellets within which are four larger pellets arranged to form a cross with a central aperture. In the field between each pellet is a smaller pellet. The reverse is undecorated. The cloth seal measures 14.88mm in diameter, 2.10mm in thickness and weighs 2.23g.
