A complete lead cloth seal of post-medieval date, dating from the 17th or 18th century. The seal consists of two discs joined by a narrow tab at the top. One face has a rope-like circular perimeter set in relief. Within this are the capital letters B&A, separated by an ornate vertical line. The opposite side is scratched with two sets of numbers arranged one above the other: 9773/31. A final '1' might be located behind a line of damage which runs across the face, possibly thus rendering it '311'. For a similar seal. see BH-F69221.

It is a two part seal, consisting of two discs, linked by a rectangular strip of lead (now missing), one disk with a central, circular perforation, the other with a central, integral rivet. The seal is closed by folding it in two, passing the rivet on one disc through the perforation on the other and crimping the two together. It is also possible that these are the two outer discs of a four-disc seal. The rivet on this example is embossed with a raised letter R and is marked on the flat face with deeply indented letters H …
