A complete and worn cast lead cloth seal with a joining strip. Disc 1: King facing, on ship and wielding a sword; rose on side of hull. Disc 2: plain with rivet head. 24.9 x 17.6 x 3.2mm. Weight: 6.69g. Geoff Egan has commented that it is apparently a new medieval type. It seems to have the basic sword-wielding king in ship-of-state as on the late medieval gold coinage, and the rose on the side of the hull may point specifically to Edward IV's ryal (aka 'rose noble') of 1464/5-70. A complete cast lead cloth seal of Modern date (c. 1800-c. 1900). A two disc seal with a rectangular connecting strip. Disc 1: Scratch marks including Roman numeral VI. Disc 2: Broad arrow (on rivet), W ?D below. The object has an even buff patina. 40.7 x 31.7 x 4.9mm. Weight: 20.61g. The broad arrow signifies that the cloth seal was probably used on cloth belonging to the War Department. A similar cloth seal has been recorded from West Clandon Parish, Surrey. However, the connecting strip and disc 2 are missing. The face of disc 1 is decorated with a moulded bird facing left with its wings in the "close" (closed) position. An incomplete cast lead cloth seal of Post-Medieval date (c. AD 1650 - AD 1705). Maximum diameter 19.0mm. Weight 2.78g. Disc 1 of a 2 disc seal. The connecting strip is missing and on the reverse of disc 1 is a flattened rivet with a casting seam at either side of the rivet. An impression was made on the reverse of the disc when the seal was attached to the cloth. This impression is clearly visible. Disc 1: NOR/WICH/??? The seal is a two part seal with sprue attached. The impressions on both discs are vague and not easily identifiable. Disc 1 has an unidentifiable image above roman-style lettering and disc 2 has a small cross pommee below which is a blackletter initial, probably standing for the place of origin. The seal mainly has a buff patina although some of this has been lost due to recent superficial damage. 17.9 x 13.5 x 3.4mm. Weight: 2.87g. Part of a similar cloth seal has been recorded and illustrated (Egan 1994: 73, ref: 189).
