A lead cloth seal of likely Post Medieval to Modern date (c. AD 1600-1900). The object is a double disc seal and is folded along a narrow connecting strip. The front disc has a raised design consisting of a shield with three five-pointed stars near the chief, underlined with a transverse line beneath it. There is a second outline around the shield and a raised circle on the central of the points on the chief edge, and the entire design is surrounded by a beaded circular border. Lead bag seal. Cast disc with a pair of holes in opposite edges, to function as a drawstring bag closure. One side bears a stamped trade mark comprising crowned cabled rim and plain inner circle with a billeted bar across it with vegetal garniture, and the legend: GOOD SEEDS / CARRIAGE FREE / REGISTERED, with the larger legend: TRADE M[ARK RE]G[ISTERED] outside it. The opposite side is stamped centrally: SUTTON AND SONS, with an outer legend: SEEDSM[EN BY APPOINTMENT ENG]LAND. Founded in 1806, the firm was warranted by Queen Victoria in 1858. Suggested date: Modern, 1858 - c1900.

An incomplete lead cloth alnage seal of Post Medieval date (Likely 16th or 17th century). One side bears a central design of crown over chained portcullis as is standard with alnage seals. An inscription in Lombardic capitals runs clockwise around edge from a fleur-de-lys initial mark, but only the final five characters are visible, giving the possible inscription: …RERGR. The reverse of the seal bears an integral rivet. Alnage seals typically had two discs and were used to seal cloth as proof of tax paid.

A Post Medieval lead alloy alnage seal dating to 1675. One side has the letters S.L which are surrounded by * SOMERSET which is in turn surrounded by a boarder of annulets, on the other side is a harp with a double pellet/annular/pellet on the three sides of the instrument, this is surrounded by a ropework and then annular boarder.

An incomplete lead alloy cloth seal dating from the early modern period, probably Queen Anne - George I's reigns, c. 1700-1727. The seal is incomplete and only one single face( of the four part seal) survives. The upper surface is impressed with a rampant Unicorn advancing left within a ring of pellets; at the foot of the unicorn is the number 3. The upper edge of the seal has been pierced by a single hole which has been drilled from both faces. The diameter of the hole is 1.7mm. Post Medieval (later 17th century) incomplete cast lead four part cloth seal. Two discs of a four-part seal remain, discs two and three, but the connecting ribbon is missing. Disc two has 'OF ENGLAND with a bust facing right. Disc three has a fleur-de-lis with 1 to left and ½ to the right. The seal is in fair condition and the surface has a buff patina. The largest disc measures 19.39mm long, 13.42mm wide, 1.57mm thick and weighs 1.23g. Cloth seals were in use between the 14th and 18th centuries (Egan, 1994) as a form of quality control. A cast lead alloy cloth seal of post medieval date (1550-1800). The cloth seal is incomplete and broken - almost all detail is lost through corrosion and abrasion. The deign on the front face is indistinct - possibly being a standing bear against a ragged staff. The reverse is plain and flat - the remains of a much abraded connecting strip is present on the upper edge. The artefact is a heavily abraded mid grey colour with active light grey powdery corrosion present. A direct parrallel has not been found. The cloth seal measures 29.8mm diameter, is 1.7mm thick and weighs 7.4 grams

Medieval lead cloth seal The seal is of uncertain form and the fragmentary remains of two discs are represented, now oval (with a surviving, length of 18.7mm, a surviving width of 13.0mm, a depth of 4.0mm and a weight of 4.3g). The face has a partial inscription preserved: EDWA[ ], indicating Edward, within a beaded border and the device at the centre has a trefoil at the apex, possibly a component of a crown but little of the device now survives.

Post Medieval cast lead or lead alloy cloth seal. It is composed of two sub-circular discs linked with an integral ribbon joining the discs. The ribbon is folded in half, thereby the two discs lay over each other. One disc has an integral stud which passes through the perforation in the second disc. Both discs have then been flattened and only one has been stamped. One face has '88' within an annulet and a legend forming the border. Only 'M followed by a pellet' is visible of the legend.
