The chape comprises a silver sheet folded twice; it is sub-triangular with a broken tip. It is undecorated.

A Medieval silver dagger chape, dating circa 1300-1450. The chape is triangular with a rounded end. The chape is undecorated. One small attachment hole survives which is pierced on one side of the upper edge. There appears to be an overlapping line on one side which could indicate where the silver sheet was rolled to form the chape.

A medieval chape measuring 33mm in length and 24mm in width. It is very badly damaged but is decorated on one side with five semi-spherical bosses.
The chape is silver-gilt and dates from the fifteenth century, and its precious metal content fulfils the requirements of the Treasure Act in that it is greater than 10%.

A silver Medieval knife or dagger scabbard chape possibly dating to the mid14th - early 15th century. The chape is tongue-shaped and narrows from 17.3 mm to 3.8mm in width to form a rounded terminal. The chape is undecorated. One small attachment hole measuring 2.8mm in diameter survives which is pierced on one side of the upper edge. The item consists of a complete sheet metal silver chape of late Medieval to early post Medieval date, 15-16th centuries, probably c.1450-1550. The chape consists of a rolled sheet of silver shaped into a rectangular shape with rounded edgese with a rounded tip at the base. The broad sides of this oval shape are plain and form the front and back of the chape and the shorter lengths form the rounded sides of the chape.

White metal; pewter or silver
Possible chape; a tapered sheet metal object, of roughly rectangular section, now filled with soil. A border at the broader end bears a horizontal row of pellets set centrally in a shallow ridge; a round hole below the gutter (diameter 3.8mm) was revealed by crumbling of soil fill of the object, and may relate to its attachment to a sheath. Torn at its broad end. Length: 44.02mm, Width: 11.98mm, Thickness: 6.09mm, Weight (part-filled with soil); 4.74gms. Suggested date: Medieval, 1250-1450.
