A complete copper-alloy medieval lace chape. The chape is formed from a rolled copper-alloy sheet and is conical in shape with an overlapping seam. The chape is undecorated and distorted. Some of the overlapping seam has opened up due to the folding and distortion and there is a split in the copper alloy sheet at 17 mm from the point. The chape would have been 45 mm long and about 5 mm in diameter narrowing to a point prior to distortion.
Length 30 mm; width 8mm; Thickness 0.5 mm; Weight 1.9g
