Post Medieval (late 16thto 17thcentury) possible cannon ball: a broadly hemispherical corroded cast iron object which is heavily corroded. There are no signs of maker's marks or casting seams, but these may be distorted by corrosion. It weighs 67.31g (2.4 oz) and measures 27.41mm diameter. Although an inexact science, comparisons can be made with historic inventories of cannon shot, their dimensions and weights. An iron cannon ball of post-medieval date. The cannonball is spherical with a diameter of 61 mm. It weighs 900g (31.7ozs or just under 2lbs). It is made of iron which has been presumably cast - although the seams cannot be seen. There is a small raised, circular section (8 mm diameter) evident which may be a sprue. A post-Medieval iron cannon ball (c. 1580-c. 1650). The ball is spherical but has a circular slightly flattened area, c. 34.0mm in diameter. The coarse surface is light and dark brown. Diameter: c. 76.0mm (c. 3.0 inches). Weight: c. 3lbs 11ounces. This cannon ball could possibly have been for a minion or falcon (Blackmore 1976: 393-396). Small cannon ball of probable Post-Medieval (English Civil War) dating to c. AD 1600 - 1700. The cannon ball is spherical. It has been made in iron which has been presumably cast. The ball is of a dark brown colour with orange flecks, small areas of slight flaking and active corrosion. The cannon ball is in fairly good condition and with no obvious dents or grazes which might suggest use. Due to its size it may have been made for a hand-held cannon (possibly a dragon or serpentine) rather than for a standard sized cannon. It measures diameter 33.5mm and weighs 143 grams.

An iron cannon ball of possible Civil War date. The ball measures 73mm in diameter and weighs 1642g / 3lb 9.9oz. The ball is stamped with a mark which is worn and unclear, possibly 2G. The object is iron however corrosion has been cleaned off leaving it a mid-grey colour with light brown patches and traces of adhering iron corrosion. The object was discovered by the landowner and was picked up by the tractor tracks.

A cast iron ball, probably a cannon ball. Given its weight and size, it may be from the 16th or 17th century. The object is sub-spherical, there are no obvious signs of impact damage indicating use. This is probably a canister shot, possibly dating to the Civil War, but more probably dating to c. AD 1600 - c. AD 1700. It is possibly intended for use in a Rabinet cannon, which had a bore of 1.5 inches (38mm). The weight is 692 g, approximately 1.5 pounds, it has a diameter of 55 mm, which suggests it was fired from a Falcon or Falconet ('Identifying Cannon Balls and Musket Shot' - article by Nick Tucker in Treasure Hunting Magazine, February 1992, p 42).

A possible demi culverin iron cannon ball c. 1600-1830. The ball measures 10.66cm (4.2 inches) in diameter and weighs 2154g (8lb 12oz). There is some corrosion on the object. Given its size and weight it is likely to be a demi culverin ball of the seventeenth century, which were usually 9lb with a 4.5 inch calibre.
