Post Medieval cast iron cannon ball. It is spherical with a distinct casting seam and rough mould vent sprue mark on one side. It is 49.3mm, 1.95 inches in diameter and weighs 440 grams, 15.5 ounces. Historic sources in the late 16th and early 17th century suggest 'falconet' cannons shot balls of 2 inch diameter weighing between 1lb 2 ounces and 1lb 4 ounces. This ball is therefore probably for a cannon of that type and dates to the late 16th to 17th centuries. Post Medieval cast iron cannon ball. The ball has a diameter of c.67mm and weighs 1059 gms. This puts it in the category of 'falcon' which was a type commonly used during the 17th century both inland and at sea.
