Post Medieval cast iron cannon ball. It is spherical with a distinct casting seam and rough mould vent sprue mark on one side. It is 49.3mm, 1.95 inches in diameter and weighs 440 grams, 15.5 ounces. Historic sources in the late 16th and early 17th century suggest 'falconet' cannons shot balls of 2 inch diameter weighing between 1lb 2 ounces and 1lb 4 ounces. This ball is therefore probably for a cannon of that type and dates to the late 16th to 17th centuries. There was always some variation in cannons and the balls they used at the time and this example may also have lost so…
