A possible cannon ball made from cast iron. It is spherical and is 42.1mm in diameter. It weighs 271g (9.5 oz). The surface of the ball is corroded and flaking. A cannon ball weighing 8ozs was fired from a Robinet cannon and this may be for a similar size cannon. These type of cannons were used in the 17th century (Blackmore 1990 Arms and Armour of the English Civil Wars, Royal Armouries p. 83).

The object is spherical with a rough and pitted surface and corrosion forming prominent lumps on the surface. There is a possible casting seam visible on a small area of the original surface and there is a short lump of corrosion protruding from one point with a mass of corroded metal at the opposite point. The object is heavily corroded.  Dimensions: diameter 51 mm; weight 369 g  The ball is heavily corroded which has expanded the diameter, so i…

An iron cannon ball weighing just over five pounds and just over three inches in diameter. This was probably fired by a Saker artillery piece. This had a calibre of 3.5" and fired a shot of about 5.25lbs. Sakers could be used either in battles or sieges. Therefore it may relate to the siege of Donnington Castle or one of the two battles of Newbury, possibly the second one (27 October 1644), where the garrison on Donnington Castle saw the approaching flank movement of the Parliamentary Army.

An iron artillery ball, now in a corroded state. The ball weighs 14 3/8 ounces (406g).
