A small corroded cast iron ball, possibly a small cannonball dating to the post medieval period (c.AD 1500-1800). The object is spherical with a rough and pitted surface and corrosion forming prominent lumps on the surface. There is a possible casting seam visible on a small area of the original surface and there is a short lump of corrosion protruding from one point with a mass of corroded metal at the opposite point. A possible cannon ball made from cast iron. It is spherical and is 42.1mm in diameter. It weighs 271g (9.5 oz). The surface of the ball is corroded and flaking. A cannon ball weighing 8ozs was fired from a Robinet cannon and this may be for a similar size cannon. These type of cannons were used in the 17th century (Blackmore 1990 Arms and Armour of the English Civil Wars, Royal Armouries p. 83).

Iron spherical cannon ball weighing 1028 grams (2 pounds) and 63.8mm in diameter. The ball is for a 'Flacon' cannon, a type in use from the late 15th to 18th centurys AD and very popular in the 17th.

Post Medieval cast iron cannon ball. The ball has a diameter of c.67mm and weighs c.2lbs (955 grams). This puts it in the category of 'falcon' which was a type commonly used during the 17th century both inland and at sea. It is flattened on one side, possibly as a result of impact during use.
