A late medieval to post medieval cast copper-alloy spherical button dating to c.1450-1600. The button has a sub-spherical solid plain body with an oval integral attachment loop and circular piercing. The surface displays a corroded green / brown patina. Post-medieval copper alloy button with an almost flat head and an integral drilled loop. The head is decorated, within a peripheral groove, with a central punched ring-and-dot impression and with four radiating hearts outlined in punched annulets. This motif is not uncommon on composite buttons (e.g. Read 2010, no. 380; SOMDOR-07E574; HAMP-F55804; HAMP-CF4C4B; IOW-E7B822; PUBLIC-25FAB2), but no other example of its occurrence on a flat one-piece button has been noted. Weight 7.38g. Diameter 23.6mm. Length 10mm. 17th century.

A complete Post Medieval lead alloy button, dating to c. AD 1500 - 1700. The button is discoid in shape and slightly convex. The front face is decorated in relief with a cruciform motif, which has a line of pellets and incised lines running down the arms of the cross, with a pellet in the centre. A pellet in light relief decorates each quarter. The reverse is flat with a prominent central cast line. Copper alloy button. A large plain probably die-stamped discoid flat button with a conical boss on the back retaining a cast loop. A grey tint may arise from tin in the metal mix while there are extensive traces of white metal plating overall. A thickness of 1mm is especially suggestive of manufacture after the introduction of the metric system, c.1801 in Europe. An incomplete lead alloy (tombac) button dating from the Post Medieval period, about AD 1600 - 1700. It has a solid circular head with a small pimple or dot on the apex. In profile it is D shaped. The reverse is flat with a scar from the missing attachment loop which was probably of wire. It is 14.61mm diameter, 6.39mm thick and weighs 5.41g. The metal is grey with a slight green tinge to the patina. Compare examples in Buttons & Fasteners by Gordon Bailey, Page 35.

An incomplete lead/tin alloy button of post-medieval date, c. 17th century. A composite, discoidal, two-piece button with a solid convex front and a flat back. It is undecorated apart from a small knop at the centre of the convex front. There are two side-by-side depressions centrally located on the rear where the missing looped shank would have attached. Measurements: diameter 13.60 mm, thickness 4.07 mm, weight 2.13 g. Similar examples are recorded in Read, B, 2005, Metal Buttons c. 900 BC - c. AD 1700, p. 76, nos. 304 & 305.
