A small, domed copper alloy button with a hollow back, into which the shank, which is broken, is fixed. The face is decorated with a moulded, regular floral design, and has been gilded. The makers name is moulded around the edge on the rear of the button. It has a dark green patina.Similar buttons can be found in Read, dated to the post medieval period Dimensions: It is 15.5mm in diameter and 5.5mm thick, it weighs 2.42g

It has the initials LV set in a representation of the Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order - an eight pointed star formed of parallel lines of varying lengths. A crown is set in the top of this. A lead alloy button. It is circular with a design made up of circles. Around a central raised circle are six evenly spaced dots of equal size with each other and the central dot. In between these is a ring of six smaller cirlces, and around the circumferece is a series of small dots with small parallel lines between them. On the reverse is the fixing loop, moulded in and the mould line is across a diametrer. Dimensions: It is approximatly 20mm diameter

Around the top half of the button is the motto 'arma parata fero', which translates as 'I bear my arms at the ready', which is the motto of the Campbell family (CANMORE). A copper alloy discoidal button. It is convex on the front with no discernable design. The rear has an integrally cast u-shaped loop with a central circular drilled hole. The whole has a dark green patina. A similar button is NLM-FD9223, dated 1600-1700. Read (2005, 73) notes a button of very similar shape and dimensions and suggests that it is part of a bic-convex hollow button, this is dated to the same period. Dimensions: it is 20mm diameter and the shank is 5mm deep. It weighs 2.47g

Silver plated livery button with square fastener. The button is biconvex and hollow. On the front a border is formed with a slightly raised moulding around the edge. The central image is of the head of a griffin, facing left and resting on a wreath with crossed spears behind it. The fastener is square with a central circular hole, and is moulded as part of the button. The makers name is moulded into the back of the button and is OLLIVANT. The griffin was a popular motif in heraldry, and it may be that this particular deisgn was not for a specific family but a generic design. …

A circular, cast copper alloy button with a looped fastener on the back. The front of the button is elaborately decorated in a series of concentric circles. The outermost circle is a raised band which may have been decorated with a textured pattern. Probably an unfinished early Post Medieval copper alloy button. The button has probably cooled in the mould before it could be removed and prepared. The intended outline of the button is visible on the patterned outer face. The decoration takes the form of four 'petals radiating out from a central raised pellet of an inner background of two concentric ridges with an outer border of impressed pellets. Probably dates to between c1500 amd c1700 AD. Diameter 17mm, thickness 3mm, weight 6.4g.

Post Medieval copper alloy biconvex button. It has a domed outer face and is circular in plan. Most of the rear and the attachment loop are absent. The outer face is decorated with an engraved central decoration consisting of a stylised flower within a circular border. The outer surface of the button has a white metal finish, probably silvering. It probably dates from between c1600 and c1750 AD. The diameter is 25mm, thickness 5mm, and the weight is 4.65.

Post Medieval copper alloy button, sometimes known as tombac or dandy buttons. It has a flat outer face, is circular in plan. In the centre of the rear there are the remnants of an attachment loop. The outer face is decorated with an incised pattern of dashes producing a stylised flower sprig. The button has a white metal coating, except for the remnants of the loop and its mounting. It probably dates from between c1750 and c1830 AD. The diameter is 25mm, thickness 6mm, and the weight is 4.19g.

A cast lead alloy button. It is circular in outline and slightly domed. It has a pattern moulded into it. Around the circumference are four what may be stylised thistle heads, formed of a circle-within-circle with a triangular shape with dots filling it coming out from this. An incomplete cast lead-alloy button of post-medieval date, c.AD 1500-1700. The artefact is sub-circular in plan, and semi-circular (D-shaped) in cross-section with the remains of a central rectangular lug on the rear. The front face of the button is domed and is decorated by a series of 6 raised cast lines emanating from and returning to a central pellet akin to flower petals around a pistil. The reverse of the button is undecorated. However, a vertical linear casting ridge is present. The button is a mid grey colour with an even patina. The edges and reverse have been abraded.…
