A cast copper-alloy Medieval single loop 'D'-shaped buckle, dating to c.AD 1200-1400.   Description: The D-shaped frame has steeply sloping surfaces and reaches its maximum width at the centre of the outer bar, with the axis bar being offset. The frame is undecorated and the pin is missing. Measurements: Length: 20.72 mm; Width: 13.7 mm; Thickness: 4.11 mm and Weight: 2.28 g. Discussion: This buckle is dated to the Medieval period due to the similarities in Whitehead (2003), No.54 and see also OXON-2D163D on this database.

A cast Medieval to early Post-Medieval copper-alloy single loop rectangular buckle frame, dating to c.AD 1400-1700. Description: The copper alloy frame has uniform dimensions on each side. All edges are slightly bevelled on the upper and lower faces. There is a slight notch on the shorter (bar). The frame has a mid-brown coloured patina. The pin is missing.    Measurements: Length: 29.97 - 28.9 mm; Width: 17.96 mm; Thickness: 3.15 mm and Weight: 4.75 g. A complete copper alloy spectacle buckle frame of early Post-Medieval date, c. AD 1550-1650. Description: The buckle is formed of two oval loops in a 'figure-of-eight', joined by a central vertical bar. The entire face of the frame is bevelled. The central bar extends slightly above the oval frames. There are moulded rosettes on either loop of the buckle frame. The reverse of the buckle is flat and undecorated. A Post-Medieval cast copper alloy buckle, dating from c. AD 1570 - 1700. Description: The buckle frame has two trapezoidal loops, roughly D-shaped in section and not quite symmetrical in plan. The strap bar stands slightly proud of the frame, terminating in two rudimentary lobed knops. The pin is missing. The buckle has a dark grey patina and there is slight evidence of tinning on the reverse. Description: The frame consists of one oval and one trapeziod loop.It is D-shaped in cross-section with a flat reverse and raised, moulded upper, consisting of series of ribs. The mouldings create the pin rest on the trapezoid loop. The pin is missing. The buckle has a medium green, shiny patina.  Discussion: Asymmetric buckles with moulded decoration on the loops are illustrated in Whitehead (2016).
