Iron bar fragment. A short fragment of probably cast iron, of trapezoid section, with a corroded point at one end, broken cleanly at the other. A thick [1mm] coat of black paint covered all except the ends, though now spalled in places. Probably from an iron gate or railing, and perhaps a casualty of the wartime (c.1940) collection of metal for either recycling or morale-building purposes. Bar mount. An incomplete Medieval cast copper alloy bar mount dating from the mid-twelfth to mid-fourteenth century. The mount has a central lobe with a hole through it from front to back, and two tapering bars with bevelled sides and a flat back. Each bar has a terminal lobe that is pierced to receive a rivet. One rivet hole is filled with corrosion while the other remains open. Both rivets are missing. The bar mount is undecorated. It has a black patina with the details delineated by a dark brown patina.
