A fragment from a copper-alloy socketed axehead of Bronze Age date. Only the socket end of the axe remains, and it has post-depositional damage. It is broadly trapezoidal in shape, and is hollow. At the socket end the rim in thickened. Along one outer edge is the remains of a longitudinal casting seam.There is a similar example recorded on the PAS database (SF-CA59D7). This socket measures 43.02mm in length, 47.15mm in width, 4.77m in thickness, 47.86g in weight.

A flint axehead of Neolithic date, 133mm in length, struck from a mottled grey flint and bifacially worked. The axehead is symmetrical on two axes and has a lenticular cross section, flaring smoothly to a rounded cutting edge 58.7mm wide. There is a large area of damage to the front edge which may be post depositional in origin. There are no areas of polishing. A patch of white cortex is retained at the centre of one face.

Cast copper alloy axe-head with a crescentic cutting edge, a plain body with slightly concave upper and lower sides and a sub-rectangular socket measuring 32.7mm in height and 28.4mm in width [externally]. A fragment of an early to middle Bronze Age copper alloy flanged or palstave axehead, comprising a 19.9mm long section of the butt end. The fragment is wedge shaped in side profile, with the tapering ends of parallel ridges along each side creating a characteristic H shaped cross section at the break, which is patinated and ancient.

It is triangular in section, being a blunt point on one side, and crescent shaped, but not symmetrical across its break, being more pointed at one end than the other. The blade is not facetted. There is some loss of material from the faces. Along the broken face there is a suggestion that it might have been hollow and therefore a section of socketed axehead, but this is not definitive. A complete Mesolithic tranchet axehead made from a nodule of dark grey / black flint, 133mm in length. Only one face of the axehead is worked, the other remains largely covered with cortex and it appears the tool was made from a long nodule which defines the overall shape. The cross section is lenticular and the butt end is tapered and rounded. The cutting edge has several transverse removals to create a rounded tip with a wedge-shaped cross section. There is battering damage to the cutting edge, possibly from use.

Object is an incomplete, small, copper alloy flat axehead, probably dating from the Early Bronze Age period (c. BC 2350 - c. BC 2050). The axe is broadly rectangular in plan with a slightly splayed crescentric blade. The sides of the axe gently taper outwards with a shallow curve, from the rounded butt to the blade. The surfaces are flat and do not show any signs of side flanges. A fragment of a cast copper alloy socketed axe dating to the late Bronze Age  (1100 BC - 800 BC), comprising a corner of the socket. The profile of the socket appears subrectangular and is surrounded by a thick rim with a moulded collar 9.6mm thick which has a triangular cross section. A side loop, 19mm in length, is present on the remaining portion of the side of the axehead and there is a visible casting seam running along it, from the rim to the break.

A heavily worn and incomplete Bronze Age palstave axe head. Extensive surface loss has occurred along the edges and surfaces of the find, giving the axe and thin irregular form. The butt end is sub-square, and is slightly more truncated to one side. From the butt, the sides flare slightly. The side flanges are missing; however, the stop ridge is still prominently visible, especially on one side. A Medieval Iron axehead, dating to c.AD 1000 - 1500.  The axehead has a triangular or 'wedge'- shaped blade with a slight curve to the cutting edge; it projects downwards more than it projects upwards from the central body of the axe. A complete knapped stone axehead of late Neolithic date, c. 2700 - 2300 BC.  The axehead is formed of a coarse brown stone. It is sub-ovate in plan; narrower at the butt end with sides which widen to the crescentic cutting edge. The axe has a humped profile and an irregular oval cross section. The surface of one side is pitted. The axehead is 81.2mm long, 44.6mm wide, 22.1mm thick and weighs 92.5g. It is impossible to source axes such as these without a detailed petrological analysis of the rock. This would allow the original source of the rock to be established.

An incomplete copper-alloy early Bronze Age flat axehead.
