Introduction In about 1990 (‘about 29 years ago’ according to the signed Treasure Receipt Form dated 2.6.2019) Mr Russel Bates of Flint found a fragmentary silver arm-ring in a field near Oakenholt, Flintshire. The object was first reported to Susie White at Wrexham Museum on 20 June 2019 once the finder realised its possible significance, and subsequently deposited with Adam Gwilt of the Department of History & Archaeology, Amgueddfa Cymru, and then transferred to Mark Redknap for analysis and a report. The silver object is a flattened fragment of penannular arm-ring of Hiberno-Viking type, now in two conjoining pieces. It has the form of a broad flat band of silver of rectangular cross-section, and in plan. The expanded mid-portion of the arm-ring is near the mid-point of the original arm-ring, and tapers to a narrow, fractured end. The production and flattening process has left multiple transverse stress fractures on the outer face of the arm-ring.
