Description: It is rectangular in form and section with straight sides. The obverse is stamped with PEN(.) above a recumbent lion.  The reverse is stamped with an unidentifiable symbol in the centre, possibly the weight mark. Across the upper third is a long S followed by other probable letters. In the lower left quarter is a 6 and in the lower right quarter a G. Measurements: Length: 16.26 mm, Width: 16.25 mm, Thickness: 3.72 mm and Weight: 7.4 g.

A Post Medieval strip of lead, containing three cut rectangular shapes which are probably apothecary weights, dating to c. AD 1600-1900. The rectangular shapes can be snapped off, creating three identical apothecary weights. They are all decorated with an inscribed A in a circular border at the top and at the bottom they are each inscribed with the number 10. A complete copper-alloy post-medieval stamped apothecary weight. It is roughly square in shape. Both faces bear the inscribed symbol for 2 scruples. It survives in good condition. Brass apothecary weights began to be used in Britain around 1618 when the apothecaries were granted a Royal Charter (Biggs 1992, 8-9). The stamped form continued to be used until the 19th century when new die-struck forms were introduced (ibid., 10). Length: 12.14mm, width: 11.69mm, thickness: 2.62mm, weight: 2.27g
