A possible medieval harness pendant. The item is in the form of a lion rampant guardant, shown in profile to the left. The tail curls up its back to form two openwork loops. A small rectangular tab is broken from the middle of the tail, which probably represents the hook element. The surface has been gilded. Similar pendants are recorded as LIN-6B7A31 and LIN-1DB150.
Similar openwork pendants in the form of lions and eagles are shown in Ashley (2002) fig.25, nos.1-3, and for types that would have swivelled on a vertical bar see fig.24, nos.241-3. Late 13th-14th century.

Part of a set of eight in the same find. This ornate gilded copper alloy harness pendant has the same animal stamped into the rectangular part,15.9mm wide, as Public-ED03AD, which may be a lion rampant. It has a single loop with a hole at the top above that rectangle 9.2mm wide. The next section narrows to 8.6mm, before it becomes wider 15.7mm. In this section there are holes for two rivets, the top being of copper alloy and has what appears to be a fastening washer on the reverse, and what remains of the lower appears to be iron.

A complete but worn cast copper-alloy harness pendant of medieval date. The form of the artefact is that of an 'elaborate quatrefoil' (Ward Perkins' (1940, 118) Type V), that is, with small lobes protruding from in between each semicircle. A perpendicular suspension loop is set at the top of the mount. This is a double-sided harness pendant; or possibly reused; the front of the pendant alludes to loyalty to the English crown, featuring a lion passant guardant upon a red field within a square, with fleur-de-lys motifs on blue fields in the four 'petal's of the mount. No gilding survive…
