It is made from thick gauge circular-sectioned copper alloy wire, bent double, then bent into a hook, with the ends each curving out to the side to form two sewing or attachment loops. The object is 37.1mm long, 25.4mm wide, 18.9mm thick and weighs 14.0g. It was found close to another almost identical object - SWYOR-842D9C. A very close parallel is Read (1998) number 589, his Early Post Medieval Class A, type 1. One half of a 'hook and eye' fastener type, consisting of a sub-triangular plate of plano-convex form with moulded decoration on the face and two sewing holes adjacent to one another in the centre. The plate terminates with a trefoil of moulded knops at one end and a large curved sub-oval attachment loop at the other. The surface displays a green/brown patina.
