An incomplete post-medieval copper-alloy flat dress fastener with foliate decoration dating from the late 16th century or the 17th century. This is an eye section with its rectangular attachment end into which a blunt hook would fit, and a sub oval plate which originally had three attachment knops: two lateral, angled knops survive. The upper surface of the plate is decorated with engraved and punched lines and curves, mainly forming a spray of flowers. Some of the lines are intermittent and seem to be formed by rouletting. A complete Post Medieval copper alloy fastener or toggle. The base is the shape of an elongated and slightly pointed oval and sub-oval in section. The base is connected to the stem, which is now bent but would have been straight during use, and terminates in a double loop. There are raised collars around the loops on both sides and the mold seam is still visible at the base. There is a dark green patina covering the entire object, and the base and stem show some wear on the surface. Description: A silver-gilt openwork 'eye' element of a two piece hooked clasp dating from the 16th-17th centuries AD. The body is made of a wreath of five flowers, each with a central pellet, and the wreath is around a heart. 2012 T329 Bassetlaw, Nottinghamshire I have examined an object found at Bassetlaw, Nottinghamshire. It a silver coin that has been converted into a brooch or clothes fastening by the addition of attachments to one side: a round eye that could enable it to be sewn to a garment and a hook. These attachments are still in place and in good condition. A fragment of the coin itself has broken off. An incomplete copper alloy toggle, of Post-Medieval date. The object has an ovoid body with pointed ends. From the long side of the ovoid projects an integral shaft with a flattened double loop terminal. One of the loops is now broken. The object is undecorated; it is covered in a thick dark green patina but file marks are visible on all three parts. The patina has worn off on part of the shaft revealing a brass coloured alloy core. The object measures 25.8mm (length) x 23.0mm (width) x 8.0mm (thickness) and weighs 7.22g.

Description Silver 'dress clasp loop'. The front is decorated with trefoils in plain wire arranged around single pellets, soldered to the back plate. A central trefoil sits within a triangular frame cable wire border. The back of the backplate is plain. The external, decorated face is gilded. A medieval strap-fitting consisting of a roughly semi- circular terminal pierced with a central aperture. The two ends are slightly chamfered. In the centre is an area of grooved decoration, resembling a scallop shell. On the reverse are two studs that would have held the fitting in place The fitting is silver and dates from the fifteenth or early sixteenth century. Silver probable dress fastener dating to the Post-Medieval period. A loop is soldered centrally onto the edge of a sub rectangular bar. The bar is rectangular in cross section and has seven perforations running along the length of it. Perforations suggest that textile or leather was sewn to the object for use as a dress hook. Diameter of loop: 10.60mm. In terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
