A Post Medieval copper alloy wound wire hooked fastener (16th century). This hooked tag is constructed from lengths of wire. Two lengths of thicker grade wire have been shaped to from the double hooks at each end. A thinner grade wire has been wrapped around the body of the hooks to hold their shape. This thinner wire has been hammered flat once in place. This thinner wire has also been used to form a loop at each end. Similar wound wire hooks and other accessories are illustrated and discussed in Egan & Forsyth (1997:227). These hooks have been dated to the 16th century. Dimens…

The two outer wire-lengths on the opposing ends are also splayed and coiled and the central three stands are bent over and flattened to form a hook. Two of the ends are curled over to form loops and the third is cut and fed through the other two loops to secure it. The shape of the artefact is slightly distorted. A similar hook was described as a bel…

A copper alloy incomplete dress fastener; part of a seventeenth century hook and eye clasp. The operational part of the piece is missing so it is not clear whether it is the hook or the catch piece.
