A copper alloy hook section of a two-part hook-and-eye clasp for fastening clothes c. 1500-1700 AD. The hook takes the form of a 'fly shape' in plan, with folded back wings and enlarged head at the hook end. It has a single central fixing hole at the rear and there is some evidence of enamel decoration to the centre of the device with red staining. It is complete except for some of the backing plate which has broken off. The fastener was probably inlaid with niello. Cf. Ward Perkins 1940, pl. LXXVI no.9. The dress fastener, or hooked tag, is of Read's (2008:101) Class E Type 3, having a sub-rectangular attachment loop above a circular, openwork central body. Below this the complete hook extends and curves round to the rear of the object, which is plain and undecorated. Read (2008:101) no. 384 is an exact comparision for this object. It dates from c. AD 1500-1550.

The body of the dress fastening is oval in plan with possibly scroll motifs, but this is not certain due to the corrosion. There are three incomplete, rounded, loop attachments on the edge of the fastening and it has a projecting rectangular arm at a narrow edge of the body, which would have originally formed the hook. An incomplete cast lead alloy dress fastener or hooked tag of early post-medieval date. The hooked tag is a rounded oval in plan and has two attachment holes drilled through the decorated face plate. The upper suqared loop and the lower loop or possibly the hook, are missing. The holes through the plate are unusual for a hooked tag of this type and they may have been redrilled after the periphery loops broke off. The dress fastener has a circular central plate decorated in moulded relief with a six-petalled flower within two concentric linear circles with alternating pellets and transverse band (ibid.). There are three attachment loops, one at the top and two either side of the complete blunt hook at the base; the hook curves forward towards the main plate.

The sub-oval plate of the tag is decorated with a moulded design consisting of a line of pellets running down the centre like a spine, these are flanked by three angled ovals, each of which is dished and filled with a white paste. Cast copper alloy dress fastener with an eye at one end which would have attached the corresponding hook of another fastener that was likely the mirror image of this one. The upper face of the fastener is decorated at the centre with a lion's head that appears to have ears and mane. On either side of the head are foliate scrolls which are connected by drapery under the chin. This pattern falls within two oval concentric borders with a row of pellets in between, that gives it the appearance of a cameo. An incomplete post medieval copper alloy dress fastener of Read's Class F, Type 1, dating to the period c. AD 1500-1700. The dress fastener has a T shaped terminal, and the vertical line of the T expands to a moulded transverse collar, below which is an openwork heart. A rounded knop projects outwards from each side two thirds of the way along the heart. The fastener narrows at the base of the heart before expanding out to a wide collar, the terminals of which curve slightly upwards. An early Post-Medieval, copper alloy dress fastener; the eye piece from a single blunt-hooked and eye clasp, of Read class A, type 2 (three attachment knops, some with a collar, projecting and/or ridged), dating from AD 1500 - 1700.
