A Post Medieval copper alloy wire-work eye section from a dress fastener or chatelaine hanger dating to the 16th century. The hook is constructed from coiled and flattened wire, arranged in six spirals, three to either side, with an open attachment loop on the long axis. At the base of this loop is a small hooked loop which likely represents the folded-back end of another of the wire components of the object. These components are collectively bound together along the centre by a rectangular bundle of finer gauge wire. See LON-587021 or LON-7E5A24 for comparable…

The ends of four wire lengths are decoratively splayed and then coiled. The two outer wire-lengths on the opposing ends are also splayed and coiled and the central three stands are bent over and flattened to form a hook. Two of the ends are curled over to form loops and the third is cut and fed through the other two loops to secure it. The shape of the artefact is slightly distorted. A similar hook was described a…

The four lengths of wire have been fastened together with a length of thinner grade wire wrapped around the middle of the hooked fasted. This thinner wire has been hammered flat…

A Post Medieval copper alloy wound wire quadruple sharp-hooked fastener dating to the 16th century. It is compositely constructed from five lengths of wire. Two thicker grade wires with both ends bent into a sharp hook, are flanking two central thinner gauge wires shaped to form a single loop at each end. An even thinner wire has been wrapped around the fastener, to hold the other four wires in place. This thinner wire has been hammered flat once in place. Similar wire hooks and other accessories are illustrated and discussed in Egan & Forsyth (1997:227) and dated to the 16th century.…
