A late medieval - early post medieval copper alloy double sharp-hooked clasp dating 15th - early 16th century. This is a Read Class R Type 2 cast in one piece, the cetral design consists of two globular forms .. Dimensions: length: 53.49mm; width: 10.93mm; thickness: 3.56mm; weight: 5.60g. Other Read Class R on the database are LON-35BB48 and NMS-245967 Reference: Read, B. 2008. Hooked-Clasps and Eyes. Post medieval copper alloy dress hook, 23mm long, 17mm wide and 1mm thick with a weight of 1.70grams. The object is incomplete and consists of a trapezoidal fixing loop which sits above a lozenge shaped plate. This has a raised solid border sitting inside a 'beaded' edge. Inside the border the object is plain. Below this, at one corner, are the remains of a raised collar which would have sat above the projecting hook.

The object is lozengiform and has slightly flattened corners to accomodate a rectangular clasp (now damaged) and corresponding circular fixing loops at each side, on one end and a circular fixing loop on the opposite edge. A copper alloy hook section of a two-part hook-and-eye clasp for fastening clothes c. 1500-1700 AD. The hook takes the form of a 'fly shape' in plan, with folded back wings and enlarged head at the hook end. It has a single central fixing hole at the rear and there is some evidence of enamel decoration to the centre of the device with red staining. It is also possible that this 'marking', is the remnants of a second fixing hole with the remains of a stud/rivet in place. A Post Medieval copper-alloy D-sectioned hollow-backed hooked fastener with a diagonal grid decoration, dating from c. 1500-1550. It is complete except for some of the backing plate which has broken off. The fastener was probably inlaid with niello. Cf. Ward Perkins 1940, pl. LXXVI no.9. Read 2008 early post-medieval single sharp-hooked Class C Type 3. Early 16th century. NB: This is a rally find that was not seen by the FLO in person. Images and findspot information were kindly provided by the rally organiser.

A complete cast copper alloy dress fastener of post-medieval date. The dress fastener, or hooked tag, is of Read's (2008:101) Class E Type 3, having a sub-rectangular attachment loop above a circular, openwork central body. Below this the complete hook extends and curves round to the rear of the object, which is plain and undecorated. Read (2008:101) no. 384 is an exact comparision for this object. It dates from c. AD 1500-1550.
