Copper alloy skirt lifter fragment, as kindly identified by Simon Maslin, correcting the finder's and this reporter's initial identification as an ear scoop. A probably drawn round-section rod with a small [diameter 6.5mm] hemispherical bowl at one end, perhaps formed by hammering, and with a flattened end at the other which is broken across the site of a rounded hole of diameter 2.5mm. Copper alloy skirt lifter, as kindly identified by Simon Maslin, correcting an initial identification as a Roman ear scoop. Simon suggests a Victorian date. Round-section shank with a flat curved oval scoop at one end, and a flat plate at the other; the latter appears to have broken in antiquity at a perforation . Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1850-1900. Length: 85.22mm, Width (scoop): 6.08mm, Diameter (of shank): 3.10mm, Weight: 4.57gms.

See here for comparison: Record ID: SUR-DB3645 - MODERN dress fastener (unknown) (finds.org.uk) . Cast round section rod with a tiny scoop at one end, broken at the other. The finder has cleaned, and perhaps also straightened, the object. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1850-1900. Length: 47mm, Width (scoop): 4.8mm, Diameter (handle): 3.2mm, Weight: 2.80gms.

Treasure case 2022 T201 Description: An incomplete silver gilt dress fastener dating to the post medieval period (c.AD 1500-1600). The fastener is broadly triangular in form with a loop protruding from the bottom. The main body is a cast design presenting a heart in the centre which is flanked by a pair of wings or perhaps leaves, each with a small circular protrusion in the centre. Post-Medieval silver dress fastener, 21mm long, 12mm wide and 4mm thick with a weight of 1.63g. The object is made from silver sheet, and consists of an oval plate which has four circular holes in a row along its outer edge. A complete copper-alloy wire dress fastener of Read Class A, type 1 dating to the Post Medieval period (c. AD 1445-1600). The fastener is comprised of a single piece of circular-sectioned wire bent over on itself to form a hook and two circular attachment loops. The surfaces have light green and mid brown patination. It measures 19.6mm long, 12.7mm wide and weighs 1.67 grams. On each lobe is a dome, two of which retain filigree decoration comprising three wire circles set around a small dome-headed pin. This is a post-medieval dress fastener bearing the arms of the Commonwealth. A sub-rectangular sheet plate stamped in the form of a lozenge with a large semi-circular lobe projecting from each side, each with elaborate geometric decoration comprising curved lines and two coat of arms in the middle.
