A post-medieval, cast, copper alloy dress fastener. Read Class A Type 1 'three attachment knops' dated to c.AD 1500-1700. The dress fastener has a central oval plate with a trefoil of attachment-knobs with circular perforations, in the ogee style. At one end is a rectangular loop, now partially broken. Undecorated. Sub-rectangular body with rounded side protrusions at the base either side of an extended gently tapering hook arm that bends backwards, terminating in a sharp point. At the apex is a damaged trapezoidal attachment loop. An incomplete copper-alloy blunt-hooked dress fastener of Post-Medieval date, c.AD 1600 - 1700. Reads Class A, Type 2. The main plate is sub-ovate with two complete ovate attachment knops projecting from either side of the outer edges. A third attachment knop is present to the pointed end of the plate. The wider end of the plate displays worn projections which would have formed an integral eye. The upper surface of the plate is decorated with a spray of three flowers bordered by ring and dot motifs. The metal has a mid-grey shiny patina suggesting a white-metal coating and is worn. …

Approximately half of the fastener survives, comprising of a plano-convex cross-section with a moulded rope-work body (in the form of a trefoil Hungerford knot) forming two adjacent loops and a further incomplete loop below.
