A Post-Medieval cast copper alloy toggle (length: 25.3mm; width of ovoid tip/ terminal: 18.4mm; thickness of ovoid tip/ terminal: 6.9mm; weight: 5.20g). The double-loops (inner loop diameter: 3.7mm) seem to have been attached and soldered on to either side of the stem (length: 15.1mm; width: 4mm). The stem was also attached to the ovoid or 'rugby-shaped' tip/ terminal. The pestle is in a worn and poor condition with a dark purple/ brown patchy patina. At present, there is no reliable typological sequence for the development of this category of artefact. Only a few pestles of this t…

Sterling silver trefoil-looped dress fastener with a setting and knop soldered to the central loop. The style of the piece looks Georgian but the recorder can find no comparanda. The hallmark is made up of the lion passant for sterling silver, the anchor for Birmingham, and the third stamp, the date letter, is illegible, but looks like a capped letter within a shield shape stamp. Birmingham started marking silver in this way in 1773, and the date letter follows immediately after the anchor between 1773 and 1783. The maker’s mark looks like ‘C Z’?
