An incomplete cast copper-alloy dress fastener of probable post medieval date (c.1550-1700). Description: The body is sub-oval in form and flat, 1.9mm thickness, with old breaks at either end. There are two attachment loops on either side surmounted by small finials (there would probably have been a third attachment loop at the base, now missing). At the top, the old break would suggest the start of a narrowed arm projecting from the body, so presumably a missing hook as opposed to a rectangular strap loop, as is often seen on this type of fastener. The clasp is made from a single piece of heavy gauge wire, which has been bent back on itself to form a hook and has its ends curled into a pair of flanking attachment loops.
