A cast, copper alloy artefact, probably a Post Medieval dress fastener or toggle dating from about AD 1600 - 1800. The date and function of objects of this form are debated, it being either a Late Iron Age or Roman cosmetic pestle, or a Post Medieval clothing fastener toggle.
It consists of a rounded body in the shape of a pointed oval, circular in section, from one side of which extends a short, sub-rectangular sectioned shaft ending in a pair of rings positioned side by side. A complete copper alloy wire dress fastener of Post Medieval date, AD 1450 - 1925. It is of Read Class A, type 1 form. It is made from a single piece of circular sectioned wire which is bent back on itself to form a hook and two circular attachment loops. The length is 15.2mm, 10.2mm wide and 9mm thick, and the weight is 0.67g. The wire is 1.3mm diameter. See Read (2008) Hooked-Clasps and Eyes, page 155, number 582 - 586. An incomplete, cast copper alloy dress fastener of early post-medieval date, AD 1500 - 1700, Read class A, type 7. It has a sub-oval body tapering at one end. It is ot clear whether it is a hook piece or a catch piece as the fitting has broken off. There are the remains of three integral attachment loops, one on each side of the fitting and one in the centre of the opposite end, all now also broken. The underside of the body is concave. A copper alloy Post medieval hook-piece from a hook-and-eye type fastener dating from AD 1550 - 1700. The body of the hook is oval and flat, with no apparent decoration apart from a white metal coating. There are three integral projecting attachment loops, one at the apex and one at each side of the blunt wide hook which bends forwards but which is incomplete. The dress fitting is 40.4mm long, 27.1mm wide and 2.1mm thick. 6.58g.

A copper alloy Post medieval hook-piece from a hook-and-eye type fastener dating from AD 1550 - 1700. The body of the hook is oval and convex, the front being decorated with a flower and foliate design (perhaps a fleur de lis) inclised on a stippled field. There are three integral projecting attachment loops, one at the apex and one at each side of the blunt wide hook which bends forwards. There are traces of a white metal coating. The reverse is hollow. The dress fitting is 38.6mm long, 16.7mm wide and 4.7mm thick. 6.85g.

An incomplete silver gilt catch piece from a hook and eye dress fastener, dating from the seventeeth century. The dress fastener consists of a disc with an added wire loop soldered on to the reverse. The disc has an applied twisted filigree border and is decorated with four repousse knops each with their own applied twisted filigree border. There are also five applied pellets, one central and four equidistantly distributed around the edge of the disc in the angles between the domed knops. A cast copper alloy, post-medieval dress fastener, dating from 1500-1700AD. The main body is circular, with a pierced and pointed knop on one side and a broad, curving hook on the other. The hook is not complete, the end portion having broken away. There are two circular piercings close to the outer rim of the main body, presumably making up a trio of attachment points with the pierced knop. A copper alloy hook piece from a hook and eye type of dress fastener, dating from the Post Medieval period. The catch is triangular in plan, with rounded projections at each corner, each containing a sewing hole. The wide flat hook projects from the straight end and bends forwards, but the end is missing. A silver dress fastener; the hook piece from a hook and eye catch. It is in the form of an acorn with a cross hatched cup and a smooth acorn. The flat hook projects from the base of the cup and bends backwards in a U shape. There are three circular sewing loops; one at the apex of the acorn, and one on each side of the hook. The front is moulded and the reverse is concave. There is a maker's mark stamped on the reverse. It is in the form of a fleur de lis.

One pieces from a copper alloy hook and eye dress fastener, dating from the 17th century. The mount is an oval plate with three projecting knops that each have a hole through them. A wide flat hook with the bent part broken off projects from one end. The plate is decorated with punched circles around the edges and a fleur-de-lys in the centre.
