A gold disc, probably part of a late Post Medieval or Modern collar stud or similar dress fitting, dating from AD 1850 - 2000. It is a shallowly domed disc with no decoration. The reverse is concave and is partially covered with a black coating, perhaps an adhesive as there is no other evidence of attachment. There is a flange round the edge which is flatter and uncoated. The disc would probably have been attached to a central shaft terminating in a smaller domed disc which would have sat against the neck after being threaded though a collar.  Measurements are; diameter 10.8mm, th…

A cast copper-alloy Post-Medieval toggle piece from a hook and eye style fitting, of Read's Early Post-Medieval unclassifed toggle-clasps Type 5 (Read, 2008: no. 761), dating from AD 1500 - 1700. A cast, copper alloy artefact, probably a Post Medieval dress fastener or toggle dating from about AD 1600 - 1800. The date and function of objects of this form are debated, it being either a Late Iron Age or Roman cosmetic pestle, or a Post Medieval clothing fastener toggle. It consists of a rounded body in the shape of a pointed oval, circular in section, from one side of which extends a short, sub-rectangular sectioned shaft ending in a pair of rings positioned side by side. The fastener has a patchy green patina. It is 24.4mm long, 16.9mm wide and 6.6mm thick. It weighs …

An oval and openwork Post Medieval dress fastener; an eye piece from a hook and eye paired fastener, dating from AD  1500 - 1700. It has a narrow incomplete loop at one end, with two small circular sewing holes for attachment behind it. The perimeter of the plate is engrailed or scalloped with ornate scroll work, and there is an oval knop at the apex.
