An incomplete Post Medieval silver dress fastener dating to AD 1500 - 1600. The fastener is of Read (2008) Class B, Type 3. The surviving incomplete component is the eye part of the clasp, formed in two parts. The plate is triangular with a decorated dome centre, two of the corners are missing. The central dome is hollow at the rear, the front is decorated with a central raised circular pellet, surrounded by four filigree twisted wire circles encased within a larger filigree wire circle at the base of the dome. Post-Medieval silver dress fastener, 21mm long, 12mm wide and 4mm thick with a weight of 1.63g. The object is made from silver sheet, and consists of an oval plate which has four circular holes in a row along its outer edge. In the centre of the opposite edge is a projecting tab or shaft which is 12mm wide at its base but narrows down to 7mm at its terminal. The shaft has a total length of 25mm but has been folded twice. The object is triangular in form with an inner twisted rope border. Inside this are three domed circles with twisted rope like border. Between two of the domes, just off centre is a spherical knop which has been carelessly attached. The whole surface has been gilded, but is very worn in places with patches of gold remaining only in recesses. The reverse of the object has a soldered on loop, about half of which overhangs a flat edge.
