A complete early post medieval copper-alloy dress fastener, dating to c.AD 1500 - 1625. Read Class E type 3 The dress fastener is cast in one-piece with moulded relief. It has a circular plate decorated with a six-petalled flower with six pellets and a central pellet in the interstices, within a linear border. Above the plate is a wide trapezoidal loop. The dress fastener consists of a rectangular attachment loop, flanked by two smaller circular attachment knops at each of its inner corners. The object is oval in form and is decorated with a series of incised lines creating a scallop shell effect. This is slightly cancave and hollow underneath. At the upper edge it has two tapering projections forming a V shape terminal and on each side under this is a circular fixing loop. Theres are traces of a third broken loop at the far end, this would have formed the 'eye' part of a two part dress fastener with a duplicate mount having a hooked end.

An incomplete copper-alloy Post-Medieval hooked tag of Read's Class E Type 3 (Read, 2008, p.92, no. 325). It is badly worn and is missing most of its rectangular sewing lug at the top. The plate is circular in form with a hollow-domed boss which bears a forward facing bust possibly wearing a wreath or turban, arranged so the face points slightly towards the integral hook, which is circular in section and gradually tapers to the curved tip. The object measures 31mm in length, 12mm in width, 3mm in thickness, and 2g in weight. See also SF-DC02A3.
