The circular face of the clasp features raised moulded relief in the form of a human face. The reverse is flat and undecorated and bears a maker's mark, part of which is lost. The remaining mark reads 'T'. Dimensions: weight: 0.9g, length (including loops…

Silver dress fastener or pin of probable Post Medieval date. The object is formed of three, broadly circular plates of decreasing diameter, attached centrally by a large silver rivet. The plates are all free moving and are convex, bending downwards away from the central rivet before turning up at the outer edge to give height and texture, rather than three flat discs. Each plate is notched from the outer edge towards the centre five times, creating five petals. The outer edge of each petal is notched further, creating broadly triangular projections. The central rivet is circular in se…

Description: Post Medieval silver-gilt 'eye' element from a two piece hooked clasp. The fitting is circular in plan with a 'D' shaped loop extending from the upper edge. This example has suffered extensive breaks around the edges resulting in only a small amount of fitting surviving. The upper surface has a cast design of a forward facing bust, with small depressions to represent the eyes and mouth. The reverse of the fitting is plain. Discussion: The object …
