An incomplete copper alloy dress fastener dating to the 17th century. A Read Class A type 1 hook piece. It comprises a convex, sub circular plate, hollowed at the rear with a trapezoidal loop at the lower edge. The plate is flanked by rounded, pierced lugs for attachment, one complete and one broken flanking the loop. There was probably a third at the opposite side to the loop where the plate is now broken. A fragment of probable dress fastener. A silver gilt openwork plate, broken at one end and bent. The upper part of rthe plate is on the form of a thistle flanked by two large leaves, the three stems of these elements continue to the break and are flanked by curving side projections and a rounded pierced projection on the right side (it is likely that there was a similar pierced projection on the left, now missing, in combination forming a fleur-de-lys). The front retains traces of gilding. The rear is undecorated.

An incomplete silver dress fastener of Tudor date. A traingular plate with scalloped edges and cast decoration on the front. There are raised circular knops at the corners and at the mid-point of each side. Flanking each of the corners corner are two recessed loop-like elements. At the centre of the plate is a raised heart framed by a triangular rope border. The top of the haert is parallel to one of the edges so that the orientation of the triangular plate is point downwards. The back is undecorated but retains patches of solder from the attachment of missing hook and other elements.…
