An incomplete copper alloy Dress Fitting (dress eye) of Post Medieval date (AD 1550-1700). The object is composed of a sub-circular central element with a flat rectangular loop at the upper end. The opposing end of the fastening has a worn knop which would have been cinquefoil in form, it terminates in an old, abraded break and a portion circular perforation is retained. There are two further perforations within the plate toward the loop end. These holes would have enabled the fastening to be sewn to a garment to secure it in place. A complete copper alloy dress fastener with blue and black enamel. There are 4 attachment loops, one of which is very worn and the edge is broken. The rectangular loop shows signs of wear. There is a simple, blunt ornamental knop. The reverse is pitted and slightly concave. The decoration is a central male bust, facing left, surrounded by foliate lines and swirls following the oval shape of the object. Post-medieval silver dress fastener eye plate cast in the form of a fan of feathers with an opposed angled lines with curled ends either side of an arrow at the base of the fan. The feathers are alternately plain and cast with a central rib and angled lines. The plate is pierced twice to form attachment holes, with the third attachment loop projecting from the top of the fan and an oval eye projecting from the base. Read (2008) Class A, Type 7, see 175, no.662 for a hooked example depicting feathers. Length 25mm. Width 15m. Thickness 1.5mm.Weight 1.0g. 17th century.

The eye-section of the object is incomplete terminating with an ancient break which leaves only a slight projection. The object is undecorated except for a coating of white metal, probably tin. Described by Brian Read, in Hooked Clasps and Eyes, as: A wire bent into a slightly open bight, the two halves forming part of the shank, and each end wound tightly spiralling inwards; a second wire bent into a tight bight and hooked at the bottom is set inside the open bight; two wires, each tightly sparalled inwards at both ends, lie one each side of the shank and the whole is seized together by a thinner gauge wire. A copper alloy dress fastener of Tudor (15th Century) date. A domed head 16mm in diameter, with 6 raised knobs arranged in a circle around both top and lower hemispheres. the top hemisphere has a large central knop, from the equivalent place on the lower hemisphere the pin or shank protrudes. This shank is approx. 22mm long and 1.8mm in diamter. It is broken. A twisted copper allloy wire, imitating thread, is wound around the raised knobs to portray knots and loops.

A complete copper alloy hooked tag, cast in one piece with moulded relief. Tinned. Rectangular eye is 15mm wide and 5mm long. The frame is 2mm thick. The plate is oval with moulding depicting two small flowers on stalks with leaves springing from a central barwithin a hatched border. Three knops to accommodate stitching to attach the object to the sleeve - one on the central base and one either side of the rectangular eye. The hook equivalent can be seen in Brian Read's "Hooked Clasps and Eyes" page 173, figure 651. Described by Read as Early Post-Medieval Class 2. 1500-1600 AD.
