It is sub-oval in plan with a rectangular projection at one end, separated from the remainder of the fastener by a shallow ridge, bent forwards to form a blunt fastening hook. A copper alloy probable shoe or clog hasp, which would have been used with a similar clasp to secure a wooden shoe to the foot, dating from AD 1700 - 1900. It is a rectangular frame round a rectangular opening. Projecting from one long edge are two prongs, curving away from each other, forming an anchor like double hook. Measurements are; length 18.1mm, width 21.1mm, thickness 1.6mm and weight 1.37g. The opening on the hasp would have taken the hooked part of the clasp. A post medieval copper alloy wire blunt hooked clasp of Read's Class A, Type 1, dating from AD 1500 - 1900. The clasp is made from a single piece of heavy gauge wire, which has been bent back on itself to form a hook and has its ends curled into a pair of flanking attachment loops.
