A complete gilt cast silver dress fastener (eye) of post-medieval date (c.1550-1600). Description: The body of the piece is sub-triangular with one sewing loop each side towards the bottom. A larger loop is formed at the top, in the centre, emerging from an integrally cast horizontal bar that extends further than the width of the body. This loop is where the hook would have been inserted, thus forming the eye part of the hook and eye clasp. An incomplete cast copper-alloy dress fastener of probable post medieval date (c.1550-1700). Description: The body is sub-oval in form and flat, 1.9mm thickness, with old breaks at either end. There are two attachment loops on either side surmounted by small finials (there would probably have been a third attachment loop at the base, now missing). At the top, the old break would suggest the start of a narrowed arm projecting from the body, so presumably a missing hook as opposed to a rectangular strap loop, as is often seen on this type of fastener. This is the eye clasp of a single wire blunt hooked fastener and is comprised of a sub-circular sheet of silver on the front face of which is a raised relief openwork cinquefoil. Description: The eye consists of a circular 11.6mm diameter attachment loop which is integral with a plate that has a raised central boss and three 'sunburst style' wavy arms above. There are two fixing apertures either side of the central boss that have moulded collars between the apertures and the attachment loop. The hooked element of a hook-and-eye clasp dating to the late 16th or 17th centuries. Description: The hooked clasp has a large square plate with rounded attachment lobes with square collars and a flat forward-curved incomplete hook. The lobes are set either side of the body and opposite end to the hook. Each of these lobes has been pierced and retain iron rivets.
