A post-medieval (1650-1700) copper alloy dress hook, eye-section, of Read's Class A Type 12 (sub-pentagonal with one attachment knop and two attachment holes in the plate). The sub-pentagonal plate has a raised rim flanking the edge and moulded decroation in the form of a four-petalled flower with sepals and fronds. A complete and well preserved rectangular silver-gilt single sharp-hooked clasp dating to the 16th century, measuring 33.87mm in length and weighing 3.8g. Such items were worn during the Tudor period in order to secure items of clothing. The body of the clasp is cast and decorated with sheeting and wire. It has a four piece, trapezoidal sectioned body, 14.81mm wide, with a front plate comprising three longitudinal rectangular panels. A cast silver gilt 'looped' portion of a dress fastener. The item is sub-triangular in shape and is formed of the head and wings of a cherub. Below the wings is a large open loop, into which the hook part of the garment fastener would slide. A complete copper-alloy dress fastener, also called a hooked tag or clothes clasp, dating to the early post-medieval period. The Hooked tag is of Read's (2008) Class E Type 3, having a circular central body in openwork, decorated with pellets around the outside and an equal-armed cross across the centre. The attachment 'loop' is rectangular and the complete hook curls towards the rear of the tag, which is flat and undecorated. These hooked tags have been found in contexts dating from c. AD 1500-1550. See Read (2008:99) no. 370 for an exact parallel.

An early post medieval copper alloy eye section from a hooked tag dating to the period c AD 1540-1700. The tag is roughly leaf shaped with the bottom of the leaf truncated by a raised collar which forms one long side of the rectangular eye. There are three debased trefoil attachment knops, one either side and one at the point of the leaf (this one has the remnants of casting sprue along one edge).
