The fastener is flat with a sub-oval plate, with a rectangular loop at one end and a circular loop at the other. It has two pierced attachment lugs projecting outwards: one either side of the widest part of the oval plate.

A complete cast copper alloy hooked tag (dress hook) dating to the early Post Medieval period of the Read Class A type 7. The main body of the dress hook is domed with radiating grooves and represents a scallop shell. The eye is rectangular. Three attachment holes are present, two on either side of the base of the eye and one at the end of the shell opposite the eye. The reverse is concave. The object is made in openwork style in the form of knotwork forming three loops, with a bar attached to the finials of the knots. The reverse of the object is flat and undecorated, while the obverse is decorated in moulded relief in the form of ropes/string with rose shaped finials. This fastener is 16.03mm in length and 15.97 mm in width; and 2.13 grams in weight.

Copper alloy 'female' tag from a pair hooked tags. The tag has a circular openwork plate that is formed ring that forms the outer edge. Projecting inwards are four evenly spaced arches that grip a central roundel that is decorated with a human head. On the forward edge is a large rectangular loop (the front is truncated) that forms the female element for the corresponding hooked plate. Either side of the plate are two pierced attachment lugs with a third at the rear that has been shaped into a scallop shell.

A complete cast copper alloy early Post-Medieval dress hook of Read's Class E, Type 6, dating to the period AD 1500-1600. The object has been cast in one piece in moulded-relief and openwork. The frame is in the form of quatrefoil 'knot' with five raised pellets. The outer frame is decorated with grooves. Where the object extends to form the rearward facing hook is a triple ribbed collar. The hook is complete. At the opposite end the attachment loop is sub-rectangular in plan. See Read (2008) is no.447 on p111 for comparison.

An incomplete cast copper alloy blunt-hooked dress fastener dating to the early post-medieval period (AD 1550-1700). The fastener has an ovoid plate with incomplete decorative 'loop' at the apex and half of the blunt-hook at the opposite end. In the centre is the ovoid plate which is decorated with symmetrical floral designs in moulded relief with the remains of white and blue champlevé enamelling. There are two attachment holes within the plate (currently filled with soil). Similar to those illustrated in Read (2008:180) no. 687 (Class A type 11).

TREASURE CASE 2018 T913. Description: A near-complete cast silver gilt dress fastener of early post-medieval (Tudor) date. The fastener is of small size, featuring a central raised boss in the form of a 'Tudor rose', with a trapezoidal loop above the rose for fastening to an item of dress. Below the rose, extending from the reverse of the object, is an incomplete silver hook which has been soldered on to the back plate of the fastener. The very tip of the hook is broken and missing. A complete lead and copper alloy dress fastener (dress hook / hooked tag) of early post-medieval date. The dress hook has a large lozenge-shaped head decorated with raised pellets around a central lozenge-shape cell. On the reverse of the dress hook is a rectangular bar for attachment to clothing. At the base of the plate the copper alloy hook is inserted into a lead sleeve. The hook is complete. Similar dress hooks are illustrated in Read (2008:68). They date to the 16th century AD.
