Incomplete late Victorian copper alloy dress lifter. Dress lifters were used to prevent long dresses from trailing in the mud by hoisting the skirt up. A chain attachment to the item would allow the wearer to lift her skirts up and down without having to bend. This example is in the form of a horseshoe with a screw-thread clamp and is possibly an example of Fyfe's ABC Patent 1876 Horse Shoe Skirt Lifter.
Dated c.1870-1900.
