Description: Fragment of a small gilded silver flat openwork mount, probably Roman in date, perhaps a rectangular fitting for belt or strap. It is sharply rectangular in cross-section, with parallel, straight sides and both ends broken. Two triangular apertures are present, along with one crescentic, and part of another. The reserved bars have a scrolly appearance, ending in roundels. No means of attachment has survived. One break is recent but the other is not, being covered in a ferrous deposit that has afflicted many metal objects on this site. Patches …

Incomplete Roman cast copper-alloy cross-shaped mount. It has a large sub-square element at the centre with slightly convex edges and front face. A cylindrical boss projects a short distance forward from the centre of this and is decorated on its own front face with a pair of concentric circular ridges, the larger one at the very edge. A sub-circular ring of tiny shallow triangular indentations surrounds the boss.
Four short arms project from the sub-square element, one from each edge, but one is incomplete. They are plano-convex in cross-section (flat on the reverse).…

A complete copper alloy phallic mount of Roman date (c.AD 43-200).
The object is convex and 'T-shaped' in plan, the phallus itself being triangular in cross-section and its straight sides gradually converging towards the raised, moulded tip. At the other end, the testicles in the form of two lobed knops project at a right angle from either side of the phallus. The reverse is concave, with a single circular stud at the centre.

Fragmentary copper alloy belt mount from a Late Roman military suite. It takes the form of a disc, much damaged around the edges, with a central hole for a now missing rivet surround by several concentric circles, one composed of pellets. The edge was probably decorated with a final outer circle composed of zigzags. This was surely a part of a mount similar to complete objects described as disc attachments with suspension loops from graves in Dorchester and Milton-next-Sittingbourne (Hawkes and Dunning 1961, p.2.5-9 and p.4b-c).

Roman copper alloy suspension mount in the form of a bovine head with round-sectioned horns, pointed oval ears, blind-drilled holes as eyes on gently swollen mouldings and, in place of a snout, a pair of lugs pierced for a spindle or hinge. Finely engraved lines between the ears and below the horns may represent the forelock. Two round-sectioned, integral, tapering rivets project 3mm from the edges of the slightly hollowed reverse. This object appears rather more refined than most Late Iron Age to Early Roman bucket mounts, and it might be acceptable to suggest that it r…

A complete copper-alloy mount of Roman date (c.AD 43-410). The face of the mount is convex and sub-rectangular. At each terminal there is a concentric circle below which is a ridge and two rows of small circular pellets. The detail at the centre of the face has been worn. The reverse is concave and undecorated.
The concave edge suggests this was not hung from clothing, but rather fitted with another piece, such as that found on a belt or sword/dagger mount. This item is also slightly curved, similar to a sword sheath mount as described in Appels and Laycock (2007) p.42 Fig.AA5.7…

A cast copper alloy figurine or mount of Roman date in the form of a stylised duck (c.AD 43-410). The mount consists of a stylised duck head and neck. The beak is pointed and oval in in cross section. The head is narrow and angular, and has two converging incised lines on either side of the head to represent eyes. Fragment of a Roman copper alloy openwork military harness mount with one disc-ended integral round-sectioned rivet on the reverse. The form of the complete object is uncertain but it would probably have been symmetrical. Trumpet derived motifs suggest it would have been close to some examples with zoomorphic and foliar decoration on Nicolay 2007, pl. 75. There are three non-recent breaks. Extant length 18.6mm. Thickness at rivet 7mm. Thickness without rivet 1.6mm. Weight 1.92g. AD c.120 - c.300.

An incomplete copper alloy Roman vulvate or coffee-bean mount. It consists of an oval-shaped plate with erosion damage to its edges, and a central raised oval boss which is decorated with a v-shaped groove running longitudinally down its centre. These grooved raised bosses are typically interpreted as stylised vulvae. In the centre of the reverse there is a concave depression that contours the back of the boss, at either end of which an integral perpendicular incomplete rivet projects. The surface of the metal is green with mottled corrosion.

The head is unnaturally small and squat head with a stubbed face and no obvious rendering for the bill. No facial features are evident on the head. Copper-alloy Roman mount. It is basically drop-shaped, with the rounded end torn and incomplete, although relatively little seems to be missing. There is an almost spherical knob at the pointed end; this knob has a small flattened area on the reverse.
