Early medieval, Viking weight of 9th or 10th century date The weight comprises a cut fragment of ornamental enamelled copper alloy metalwork set into a lead base and is near-complete, missing much of the enamel (with a weight of 116.3g). The lead base is flat and sub-oval (36.5mm x 27.5mm) and the sides are slightly concave and convergent to the top face with a sub-rectangular section (19.0mm thick). Copper alloy zoomorphic figurine, probably a weight in the form of a horse, now damaged and incomplete, represented by the front of the animal (with a surviving length of 32.5mm, a maximum surviving height of 22.1mm and a weight of 20.4g). The legs of the horse survive as short stubs and are projecting forward, suggesting the horse may have been depicted running. The figurine has a maximum width across the shoulders of 10.0mm. Cast lead weight possibly a line fishing weight similar to those used in Viking Dublin (Wallace 1999). The weight resembles a Dublin type 1 or 2 (ibid.), the piece does not have perforations at either end, as would be required for a hand fishing line, although there are suggestions of marks at these points. The weight may be a counter weight from a tool such as a woodworking plane, possibly of 19th century date. The weight has a flat base with domed top at the centre and flat ends.

Perforated biconical lead, or lead alloy weight. Although the weight's surface is corroded, both sides are visibly decorated with either a chevron or diagonal criss-cross design. On one side the design is also punctuated by a number of bosses. As well as the central perforation, one side of the weight is perforated by a second circular vois which connects with the central perforation. It is uncertain whether this second perforation is a deliberate feature or casting flaw.
