A small discoidal cast lead object: probably a weight of post-medieval date. The base of the weight is slightly concave while the upper surface features a raised rim. Within the rim there appears to be moulded decoration within a low border. Unfortunately the detail is difficult to discern due to corrosion. It is probable that such a unifacially decorated object in lead would have acted as a small weight.

A worn and corroded sub-conical weight cast in lead. The crude base bears an off-centre perforation which runs along the length of the object (Dia.: c. 7.6mm); the hole tapers slightly towards the top. Around the hole is possibly a circular groove. This weight is undiagnostic and could date anywhere from the Roman to post-medieval periods.

A small roughly cylindrical cast lead weight, quite crudely made. The top and base are flat. The edges are all rounded. The surface is a light whitish-grey colour and the metal is rough and pitted. Due to a lack of excavated examples and the lack of context this weight must remain undated.

A cast copper-alloy circular trade weight of late medieval to post-medieval date. The weight has an incised circular groove c. 3.7mm from the circumference. There is a central punch around which a raised circle with a shallow circular depression beyond. Resting on the border groove is a crowned Lombardic 'h'. This mark was institued by Henry VII in 1495 and lasted into the reign of his son, Henry VIII (Biggs 1992, 48). The lower surface of the weight features considerable evidence of linear filing with many marks running diagonally and crossing each other. Its weight equates to half a…

A cast copper-alloy circular trade weight of post-medieval (probable early 17th-century) date. The weight has a low rim (W.: 3.0mm) on its upper surface. Within is a punch at the centre of a slightly concave field. Punched within the rim at 12 o'clock is the sword of St Paul (for the City of London). At 6 o'clock, just below the punch and not properly struck, is a ewer (for the Founder's Company, maker of weights), while at 11 o'clock the royal cipher has been struck. This latter is the crowned initial 'I', denoting King James - probably James II (AD 1685-1688) on the positioning of t…
